Paul McCartney announced to the press that he was quitting The Beatles.
In some ways that was the end of the band.
But as many people know, a job isn’t done until the paperwork is finished.
Come 1974, The Beatles still officially existed.
The papers dissolving the band were drawn up.
Ringo signed first.
Then a meeting was planned for New York at The Plaza Hotel for Paul, George and John to sign.
The day of the meeting arrived.
Ringo was on the phone, Paul and George were at The Plaza and John was a no show.
John, who lived within walking distance of the hotel, was contacted by phone.
He relayed the message he wouldn’t be coming because “The stars aren’t right,”.
John did eventually sign the papers officially ending The Beatles.
He signed December 29th 1974 at Disney’s Polynesian Resort at Walt Disney World.
